Warlord's Son by Dan Fesperman

About this copy

The story is set in the immediate aftermath of the September 11 attacks. It follows Stan Kelly (known as "Skelly"), a burned-out American war correspondent who has fallen from grace and is looking for one last career-defining scoop. Skelly is deployed to Peshawar, Pakistan, a chaotic frontier town serving as a launchpad for journalists trying to cross the porous border into Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. To safely navigate the region, he hires a local "fixer" named Najeeb Azam. Najeeb is the American-educated, exiled son of a brutal tribal warlord. He harbors a complicated double life, acting as an unwilling informant for the Pakistani secret police in exchange for U.S. visas for himself and his girlfriend. Together, Skelly and Najeeb make a hazardous crossing into Afghanistan by linking up with the caravan of an aspiring warlord attempting to reclaim territory from the Taliban. Their journey quickly spirals into a desperate race for survival as they navigate a shadowy web of shifting allegiances, corporate interests, spies, and betrayal. Good condition
