The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes

About this copy

• The Setting: Set in rural Kentucky during the Great Depression, the story is inspired by the real-life Pack Horse Librarians program championed by Eleanor Roosevelt. • The Journey: It follows Alice Wright, a young Englishwoman who marries a handsome American to escape her stifling life in England. However, she quickly finds small-town Appalachian life just as suffocating—until she meets Margery O'Hara. • The Mission: Alice joins Margery and three other fiercely independent women to deliver books via horseback to isolated families tucked away deep within the treacherous mountains. • The Conflict: Together, the close-knit group of "book women" battles severe weather, unforgiving terrain, and strict social disapproval from the townspeople. The stakes rise dramatically when a dead body is found in the mountains, casting suspicion on one of their own.
